MERRY CHRISTMAS

Voyages

..I have been standing on the shore of
Love's boundless ocean, scanning the far horizon
For the little boat that sailed away so long ago.
Her sails took her to shores I could not visit, and
She sailed over a horizon I could not see beyond.
But Love never let that image go:The eyes of my soul were always
Looking for her sails, waiting for the wind
To bring the little boat back to shore.
One day the sails appeared--magic,
Fluttering, but weary from the voyage.
The sun rose again in my heart as
She sailed into my harbor, voyages
To other lands over, safe again,
Home to stay.
But like Ulysses, she loved the fray
And missed the ports she had called her own,If only for a day.
“Ships were made to sail,” she mused.
And my harbor held her in and
Furled her sails.
So she is off to find a “newer world,”
And pays mouth-honor to her moorings, however brief.
She will not sail my way again.
The port is closed.
Some voyages must end. copyright Anne 2010
